The Final Countdown
July 2015
My bags are packed, my clothes are filthy, and my bank account is unhappy with me. It's almost time to leave the land that I love. The two months of the year that make the other ten bearable are almost over. But as sad as I am to leave Italy I am also happy to be going home soon. Not only do I have an incredibly cute apartment waiting to be unpacked when I arrive, but I also have great friends and family waiting for me in the US. And even though I'm sure my new fancy apartment will be boiling due to the nasty heat and humidity of Philly/the Main Line, it will be my boiling, nasty place to call my own. It's back to cooking all of my own meals and eating produce (oh man, real produce! Do I remember produce?! It's been so long...). And it's back to studying... But maybe not right away ;).
But first I must say goodbye to the Eternal City and the continent I love. It's never easy. But after a pretty great day of seeing old friends (marble ones included - I finally saw the statue I dug up six years ago on display in the Montemartini museum!), getting some delicious food (lots of gelato, obviously, and crema di zucca pizza, plus Baffetto's pizza later!), and seeing some of my favorite sites, plus rain (yeah - rain!), I think it's about time I head back to the US... But really it's mostly important to get out of Italy before August, when everyone here goes on vacation and Rome works less well than it usually does (seriously, avoid Italy in August at all cost). But even without the impending doom, it's time to get back to my life in the US, where more good friends and heavy books await.
But until then, I'm going to enjoy my last night in Rome...
