L’Aqua non Funziona

The water doesn't work. This is a phrase we learned quickly. We were warned about this, so it's not surprising, but it is still funny. The town we live in has water delivered to the houses every other day. Once the tanks are filled that is the amount of water you have until they deliver the next round of aqua. When you excavate you are nearly constantly covered in dirt, sweat, and sunscreen - a delightfully aromatic cocktail - and showering regularly is pretty important. On the other hand, it is pretty difficult to get this stinky combo off of yourself in the very limited time we have under the shower head, so you very quickly resign to being constantly un po' sporca (a little dirty) and even occasionally just forgoing the whole shower and trading it for a good face and armpit scrub.
Apparently in the past when the water has been nonfunctional for several days the crew went to the local spring to bathe - and when I say "bathe" I mean dump buckets of cold water on each other. Sounds pleasant, right? Luckily we didn't have to resort to that this time! The water was promptly refilled and working again the next day. 24 hours without water wasn't too terrible, but it certainly makes you appreciate the nearly endless supply of water back at home. Cheers to running water and our many new back up shower plans! May we not have to use them...
