The Long Goodbye

August 6, 2013

Well, this is also long overdue, but as this blog is aimed at my archaeological adventures it is only fitting that I mention the end of th excavation. After our backfill* day (tear!) people began to depart com our tiny town in Greece. There were many sad goodbyes and before I knew it the town was nearly empty and it was my turn to say goodbye to my remaining friends and to the town. I have never been so sad to leave an excavation. This one was particularly special because it was my first excavation in Greece, but I think the people had more to do with it. We sweat together, sorted through dirt together, and at kept each other sane... or at least tried to.

Each excavation has a rhythm, a feel, and despite meeting my best friend on my first excavation in Rome, I think I will miss the feel of my Greek dig most of all. Thank you to all of my new and "old" friends who made this summer wonderful!

And now... Germany!!!
